Why “Brothers”? Because the name came first.

Caley Brothers is a small mushroom farm in West Sussex, run by sisters Jodie Bryan and Lorraine Caley.

Company story

From allotments to a mushroom farm.

Jodie and Lorraine were raised in Surrey, surrounded by home-grown food: working on their parents’ and grandfather’s allotments and helping out on a livestock farm in the New Forest.

They bought mushroom spawn and started growing. When a local farm shop showed interest in selling their mushrooms, the beginnings of a business took shape. During lockdown they developed their grow-at-home kits and moved the business to Lancing.

Today the mushrooms are grown in bags in a purpose-built room in a barn at Applesham Farm, Coombes, near Lancing.

What makes us different

A name with a story.

The Caley Brothers name existed long before the sisters did. Their grandparents and uncle Bill ran a grocery delivery business under that name, and the original hand-painted sign was preserved. Keeping the name is a nod to that food-growing legacy.

The business also appears at flower shows including the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, BBC Gardeners’ World Live and RHS Hampton Court, and has published a book, Project Mushroom.
